Morphology:
Larva:

- Body elongate
- Antenna segment 1 greatly elongate and longer than the combined length of remaining segments
- Head flat
- Labium quadrate or more or less triangular in shape with long moveable hooks
- Prementum with deep median cleft with 2 premental setae on each side
- Caudal gills long and usually blade-like with distinct dorsal ridge
- Legs long and slender especially tibia
